Some may say acting is simple, but for the student like me who attended the intense yet wonderfully exciting Productions workshop this summer from July 20th until Just 31st, we know the truth.
Each day of the two week camp, every student came ready and eager to learn multiple tecniques and many exercises constructed to help us learn more about every aspect of theatre and the art we all commonly have a passion for. When I say every aspect of theatre, I truly mean it. We were trained in theatre combat, vocal work, monologue critiques, correct breating technique, being in touch with your body as an actor, movement work, and the list goes on and on. Every day we arrived at 8:45 in the morning and by 9 o' clock, we had already begun on our work-out which ususally lasted about an hour to an hour and a half. This prepared us for everything that we had to do each day.

As you're reading this, you're most likely thinking about the amount of hard work that went into this learning process, however, do not fear, for I can say for all of us that this two week workshop was possibly the most fun we have ever had in our lives. We were not simply learning about acting, but learning about ourselves.
Another thing that you, as a reader, are probably wondering is who all was involved in this camp. I am pleased to answer that question with saying that Alex Hoeffler and Ryan Roets were the two delightful people that led our workshop, along with Kathryn Saffel and our two wonderful directors: Gloria Robinson and Mark Keith. Alex, Ryan, and Kathryn came to us from the extremely prestigious University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Both Alex and Ryan are entering their fourth and final years there this year. They are trained in all of the branches of theatre arts that we were taught this summer. They taught us that it's not about the applause at the end of a show. Instead, chasing the dream and passion of theatre is about becoming an ensemble with your cast, knowing that you do not have one aspect of theatre without each and every other one, and most importantly, it's about being yourself, having fun, and simply enjoying what you are doing. We were all genuinely full of sorrow on our last day when the goodbye's were exchanged. Although we knew we were leaving a great experience behind us, we were also aware that this was the perfect way to lead us into the fantastic year ahead. With full steam ahead each student in the Theatre Productions 2009-2010 class is completely excited and ready for what lies next.
Thank you to everyone that was involved and to everyone reading; Come see our stage productions and let us show you our passion for the art of theatre!
