| Thespians | |

What exactly are "thespians?" The International Thespian Honor Society is a group of dedicated young artists reaching out to the surrounding community "performing" acts of service. By extending our help to those around us, we enrich the lives of those in environments other than the stage. To become a thespian, one must earn 10 "points" by being involved in theatre. From being onstage to working as an usher, students receive points toward becoming a member of this global organization. Since every aspect of theatre is equally important, all theatrical work is rewarded. The Ronald Reagan Drama Club works side by side with the Thespians Society, allowing those dedicated toward becoming inducted the opportunity to stay involved and earn their spot. Our student officers offer aid to those wishing to be inducted, plan activities and community service, and keep the spirit of theatre alive at Reagan High School and in our community. The Thespian Troupe works directly with Habitat for Humanity, Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat, and the San Antonio Soup Kitchen. It also sponsors an annual blood drive for the Red Cross. We hold monthly meetings to plan events and give information about upcoming service projects. We also have fun at our yearly Halloween and Spring parties. The International Thespian Honor Society/Drama Club is a great way for students to get involved, serve the community, and be a part of a close knit creative family. Come to a meeting and join us this year! "I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms; the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being" (Oscar Wilde). -Mason Hensley, President '11-'12 |

| Thespians Convention | |
|
A big event for Thespians Honor Society is the Thespian convention. Each year, inducted thespians are able to attend. Not only is there a Texas Thespian convention, but there are many held in other states from Minnesota to California to Florida just to name a few. The Texas Festival welcomes troupes from all over the state of Texas to participate in play marathons, directing classes, acting for the stage, acting for the camera, singing classes, dance classes, puppeteer classes -- the possibilities are endless. A major part of the convention are the numerous performances by schools from across the state. The play marathons are 30-45 minute plays put on by troupes that apply to do their show early, and anyone with the convention can go see! They also produce three main stage shows that are auditioned at the end of the previous year and shown at a local large theatre! There are also opportunities for competition. Categories for competition include: duet acting, solo acting, duet musical, solo musical, solo pantomime, in addition to tech events such as make up competition, "super techy", and "group techy". We have had great success in the past, with many of our students qualifying for the International Thespian Convention each year, a number of them being chosen out of all the troupes competing to perform on the main stage for the entire convention. Another very impressive opportunity is that many colleges come to the convention to see auditions. Two seniors from each school can participate in this and scholarships are awarded to a select few out of the hundreds. Overall, convention is a great opportunity to have fun with your friends, and ultimately learn a lot about the arts and yourself! |
